Dyker Heights is a neighborhood in Brooklyn that’s known for its over-the-top Christmas lights displays. Every year, the residents go all out to decorate their homes with lights, inflatables, and other festive decorations.
The ending result is a really pretty sight that’s perfect get you in the holiday spirit!
To get to this cute neighborhood, you can either book a guided tour or explore on your own by taking the N train to 11th Avenue or 18th Avenue. Once you’re in the neighborhood, you can just start wandering around and admire the lights. There’s no set route, so you can explore at your own pace.
2- Discover Treasures at the Christmas Markets
If you love markets like me, then you need to check out New York City’s Christmas markets. Even if you don’t love markets, these Christmas markets are a great atmosphere to be in for holidays!
These markets offer a unique blend of handcrafted ornaments, artisanal crafts, delectable treats, and heartwarming beverages. Live music and other forms of entertainment often add to the festive vibes
The best ones are the Union Square Holiday Market, the Bryant Park Winter Village, and the Columbus Circle Holiday Market. But, they each have their own unique charms, offering a diverse array of gifts and experiences to cherish.
You can either get to these markets while exploring New York, or you can get there via a tour.
3- relax by Immersing in the Magic of Holiday Shows
You cannot visit New York City, and not attend a show at one of their world-class theater. Around the holidays, these theaters offer a lot of entertaining and fun holiday shows.
There are shows like, the dazzling Radio City Christmas Spectacular , The Enchanting Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, and of course the classic – A Christmas Carol at the New York Theatre Workshop.
There’s a show for everyone! I personally loved the Radio City Christmas Show.
I would recommend that you book tickets in advance, because these popular shows tend to sell out quickly!
4- Go on a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride throughout THE CITY
I’m sure you’re not surprised to see this one, but a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park is a mandatory New York City experience, and during the Christmas season, it becomes even more magical.
As the carriage gently rolls through the park’s enchanting pathways, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of festive decorations and the warmth of Christmas spirit.
Don’t see New York City from the windows of a bus, when you can have a way better view. And the horses are always really sweet.
5- Visit the High Line Park and Greenwich Village Food
The High Line Park used to be an elevated railway that has been converted into a public park. It’s a great place to take a walk, enjoy the views of the city, and people-watch.
During the Christmas season, the High Line Park is decorated with lights and Christmas decorations, making it a great place to enjoy the winter wonderland.
It even has a covered area that is decorated with Christmas string-lights (the perfect place to take cute Instagram worthy pictures).
When you leave the High Line Park, go over to Greenwich Village for some delicious food.
